Do you’ve any document to backup your source? The wiki article at the wikipedia says Aqua was developed by Apple in 2000. However, you can install X11 server and client on Apple OS X to run Gnome or kde apps such as Gimp.

this is wrong btw, OS X is still using X11 as Aqua is the GUI and primary visual theme of Mac OS X. Aqua runs on X11.
