Q: What software program do I have to use under Linux for Virtual Private Network (VPN)?
A: A virtual private network (VPN) is a private communications network. It provide a secure connection through an otherwise insecure network, typically the Internet. VPNs are generally cheaper than real private networks using private lines but rely on having the same encryption system at both ends.
Linux offers different solutions/software(s) to connect your network securely to WAN. OpenVPN is a full-featured SSL VPN solution which can accomodate a wide range of configurations, including remote access, site-to-site VPNs, WiFi security, and enterprise-scale remote access solutions with load balancing, failover, and fine-grained access-controls
OpenVPN runs on:
- Linux
- Windows 2000/XP and higher
- OpenBSD
- FreeBSD
- NetBSD
- Mac OS X
- Solaris.
