  Q. I’ve installed a new 250GB SATA hard disk on our office CentOS Linux server. How do I format a hard disk under Linux operating system from a shell prompt?

  I am going to sell my laptop soon. Before discarding my system, I want to make sure that no one should able to use my personal data using any method (format do not work). Is there any open source software out there that can help me permanently erase my hard disk?
