Q. How do I install Mplayer multimedia player under Ubuntu Linux 6.10?
A. MPlayer supports a wide variety of multimedia file formats. It can also save all streamed content to a file. It is available in both command line and GUI front end format.
The best way to install mplayer under Ubuntu is use a program called automatix. You can download latest version from following ulr:

It can install required Multimedia packages and codecs.
Ubuntu install mplayer
First install automatix:
$ cd /tmp
$ wget http://www.getautomatix.com/apt/dists/edgy/main/binary-i386/automatix2_1.1-2.15-6.10edgy_i386.deb
Install automix
$ sudo dpkg -i automatix2_1.1-2.15-6.10edgy_i386.deb
Start automix by typing following command:
$ automatix2 &
Now click on Multimedia and select Mplayer and FF, Multimedia codecs, and AUD-DVD codecs> Click on Start button.
It will install mplayer and related codecs. You can now use mplayer from command prompt or from Application > Sound and Video menu

i wish to install jdk on my ubuntu but this was what happened:
jhang@ubuntu:~$ sudo apt-get install sun-java6-bin sun-java6-jre sun-java6-jdk
[sudo] password for jhang:
Reading package lists… Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information… Done
E: Couldn’t find package sun-java6
