The price of Iphone in US is cheaper because of 2 years contract with the service provider i.e. AT&T, and you have to compulsarily buy the data plan consting a min. of $30 per month (In addition to the normal talk plans which would be $100/month for unlimited talktime). So, 30*24= $720 for the 2 years contract is to be paid just for data plan. This, for a 8GB iPhone you would pay $200 + $720 + $2400 = $3320 for unlimited usage of iPhone over 2 years. Even if you don’t go for the unlimited plan, you still have to pay $60/month just for 900 mins of talk time. And all these prices are excluding taxes. So, the iPhone in US costs you $3320 (more than Rs. 1.5 lacs even at a low exchanfe rate of Rs. 46 per dollar) over 2 years (The contract duration, so you have to pay). So, what do you think? iPhone is cheaper in India or in US???

hi i phone can be used while travelling………….wen not in use in night time travel u can off the phone in order to save the battery for next day..
so it depends how u use the phone when not in use just off and if there are urgent mags they will be in voice mail ………so nothin to worry if u can afford then kool or leave it..

In US it is cheaper but the monthly bills are high upto atleast $70 (Rs 3500) a month (including $30 mandatory data plan) and that too for two years..and if you want to break the 2 year contract you have to pay a fine that will be the rest of it’s price.
So basically the prices are same.

Hi all

There is a myth in the market place on low pricing of the product (reference price point being Rs. 8000 or Rs.12000/- which refers to AT&T pricing of USD 199 or USD 299).

The reports don’t factor the commitment which a customers needs to give for a particular Price Plan for a period of 24 Months in the case of AT&T. For O2 the commitment is for 18 months with selected plans.

But, if we calculate other cost like montly rental for voice, i.e., 69.99 (USD), the total cost of ownership for the period of 24 months for a 8 GB model comes around Rs.81000/-! The total cost of ownership for O2 is around Rs.200000/- over a period of 18 months.

In first look it looks high, but in long term, it is still cheaper in India. So, don’t stop urself from buying this lovely gadget…

I prefer a Sony Ericsson/Samsung until iPhone drops to around 15k.

Few reason for not going for iphone in India,

1. iPhone 3G has limited and restricted features
2. No 3G in india
3. Pricing is unreasonable along with added service cost.
4. iPhone 3G if bought from Airtel is tied to Airtel sims only.
5. Since Indians travel a lot say for a bus journey of 12 hours…. iPhone is dead by morning you reach there.
6. and the list goes on….

Wait for the Android based phone to capture the market.

I don’t think this will be a failure.

There are many in India crazy about cell phones as status symbols. I remember in the mid 90s when few people had cell phones, most of them had phones costing 25K and above.

Which is the same as 35K in todays money. And with the high salaries of todays generation, there will be many who won’t think twice to buy it.

In the US, carriers like AT&T subsidised the cost of iphone and hence they are affordable.

iPhone at 31K / 36K ! Not worth it at all. Does the Indian service-providers and Apple-India feel that there are

more than few fools in India to buy it at that price? No way… Will fall on face very soon. Big failure I must say.

Apple proves again, its products are for wealthy people only. I was hoping price tag 15000-20000 for 8GB model. What a disappointment. I’m not too optimistic about its success here in India.
