Hi,

I have a Windows xp with a VM client installed.

Questions

1) Is there a link where I can download the fedora 8 vm for testing purpose?

2) Anyone tried running nagios on fedora?

3) Does anyone know if fedora 8 has issues with SSD cards? Loss of mount or file system in a sudden without notice?

I’ve never bothered to comment on these sites do to my not feeling that I knew anything of any use to those who already are used to using the Fedora system. But, after I have been seeing some of the comments about the FC8 system, I felt that maybe I could be of some help to at least one person (newbie)!
I have downloaded the (Werewolf) distro: When I did my download, I used the Burn4Free. Then used the BURN ISO IMAGE option. It worked just fine. Later on, I did another burn using the K3D software from Linux. Again, I First used the DVD choice to burn the ISO image. Then chose the BURN ISO image. It did all the work for you basically. Since then, I have done at least 6 installs with my “Werewolf” distribution and everything works just fine. Even when I do add-ons or updates, or, non-distro add ons. It hasn’t let me down yet! I hope this can help someone who may be having trouble.
NOTE: So far, I have found that the few I knew that had trouble, was do to the burn itself being a bad burn, or should I even dare to say, it was just done as a copy instead of burn!

Yeah, thanks FC community.
My setup works perfectly. I think i have confused about ISO image file. I shouldn’t have decomposed the ISO image file before burning the ISO image file to DVD. I should have had Nero just map the ISO image file to DVD.
It’s worth more than 1 day to wrestle my FC-8 setup. Anyway, thanks everybody.

i had fedora 8 and it ran perfect with grub installed but never delete the partition unless you want to screw your system. And learn all the grub commands.

BUT FEDORA 8 IS BY FAR THE BEST LINUX OUT THERE RIGHT NOW

debian or slack or if you like NONE? do it the hardway. LFS. i preffer LFS. its like you make your own rubber condom, after all you know the usage size isnt it?

No you can’t; use special script or other method to boot from USB device.

short answer NO, long answer, YES, but after you change a few sections. USB load of ISO mode as cdrom, requires a BIOS setting as identify it as a cdrom USB drive. and second? USB CDROM usage would require you to use UDF mode, plus the bits transfer i.e. IO from /dev/sdaX -> /dev/harddrive (SATA/ATA/PATA/SCSI)? man you nuts? you want to pass 2 lts of water which is sent from a 2 mm pipe suction point and then spill it from a 50 mm pipe end? wont work so much. i am lazy. i preffer the old conventional netinstall. :-D or dump the image in hdd and make a min install set cd/floppy and boot off image from the hdd and install.
besides USB sticks are slow 40 mb read vs 22 mb write against a high 230 mb cd speed? ermmmmmm
