Firefox 2.0 – First impression

by Vivek Gite · 1 comment

To be frank I was using final version 2.0 since morning today. But I had no time to write about it. Then there was some problem with our hosting providers DNS server and network problem at Internap/ Above.Net ISP. Now everything is back online :)

Anyway...It (FF 2.0) has key new usability features missing in the new IE 7 :)

Use wget or other downloader commands to download new Firefox v2.0

$ cd /tmp
$ wget http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/2.0/linux-i686/en-US/firefox-2.0.tar.gz

Move old plugins:
# mkdir /tmp/plugins
# cp -avr /opt/firefox/plugins/* /tmp/plugins
# rm -rf /opt/firefox
# tar -zxvf firefox-2.0.tar.gz -C /opt
Copy all plugins except libnullplugin.so:
# cp /tmp/plugins /opt/firefox

Following extensions are working:
=> Google firefox toolbar
=> Stumble upon toolbar

But del.icio.us toolbar is not compatible with firefox 2.0. Another thing is my Flash player 9 (beta) and real player plugins are also working fine.

Wordpress keyboard shortcuts are not working like alt+c, alt+b :( This is a must for me.

Overall most things are working except my wordpress keyboard shortcuts. This is highly recommended download as it offers many security features such as:
+ No more memory leak problems.
+ Built-in phishing protection
+ Enhanced search capabilities
+ Built in spell checking etc
+++ See complete list of new features.
- Wordpress keyboard shortcuts not working
- Few extensions are not working
