I‘ve 82801G ICH7 family sound card installed on my laptop and not working with both Debian and Ubuntu Linux? How can I fix this problem and make sure 82801G ICH7 chipset based sound card work on a Linux?

This problem can be fixed using any one of the following method on a Linux operating system. This is related Intel HDA driver called snd-hda-intel. If you use the latest kernel this problem may not occur at all.

Update alsa-base file

First, open a terminal window or Terminal app.

Edit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base, enter:

sudo nano /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base

OR

sudo vi /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base

Append the following

options snd-hda-intel model=3stack Exit and save by using CTRL-X and confirming

Save and close the file. Reboot the box:

sudo reboot

If you do not want to reboot the box, try the following two commands at shell prompt:

sudo rmmod snd-hda-intel
sudo modprobe snd-hda-intel
